Volunteer With Us

If you have a military connection and would like to give something back by supporting fellow veterans, we would love to hear from you. VCN offers a range of rewarding volunteering opportunities, including becoming a trained Peer Mentor, supporting our drop-in hubs, helping with therapeutic gardening at our Veterans Rendezvous Point, or assisting at community events and activities. Full training and ongoing support are provided. Whether you can commit to a few hours a week or more, your time and experience can make a real difference to veterans and their families across our region.

Join Our Board of Trustees

Help shape the future of support for veterans across Northamptonshire and the wider region.

About VCN

Veterans Community Network (VCN) is a registered charity (1191970) that supports veterans, reservists, and their families across Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, and Northamptonshire. We provide peer mentoring, wellbeing activities, and help veterans access housing, benefits, employment, and mental health support.

We are a small, passionate team with big ambitions. As we grow and develop our services, we are seeking experienced, committed individuals to join our Board of Trustees.

What We’re Looking For

We are seeking Volunteer Trustees to strengthen our Board and help guide the organisation through its next stage of development.

We are particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Charity governance and trusteeship
  • Finance, fundraising, or business development
  • Mental health or social care
  • Marketing, communications, or digital
  • Lived experience of military service (highly valued)

You don’t need to be a veteran to apply — we welcome applications from anyone who shares our values and wants to make a meaningful contribution.

What’s Involved

  • Attend monthly Board meetings (currently held via Zoom)
  • Provide strategic oversight and governance
  • Support the development of VCN’s services and sustainability
  • Champion the organisation and help us build new partnerships

Time commitment is approximately 4–6 hours per month, including preparation and meetings. This is a voluntary role, but reasonable expenses will be covered.

Why Join Us?

As a Trustee at VCN, you will play a direct role in improving the lives of veterans and their families. You’ll work alongside a dedicated team and fellow trustees who are passionate about making a difference.

This is a rewarding opportunity to use your skills and experience to support those who have served our country.

How to Apply

If you are interested in becoming a Trustee, we would love to hear from you.

Please contact us using the form below or email admin@vcn.org.uk with a short expression of interest. We are happy to have an informal conversation before you apply.

We particularly welcome applications from veterans and individuals with lived experience of the Armed Forces community.
