Urgent Support

If you are a veteran or know a veteran who is in an immediate mental health crisis or at risk of harm, please reach out for help right now.

You are not alone. Support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Taking the step to contact someone can make a real difference.

Immediate Emergency Contacts:

If there is immediate danger to life or risk of serious harm to yourself or others:

  • Call 999 (Police, Ambulance, Fire & Rescue)

For urgent mental health support and someone to talk to right now (24/7, free and confidential):

  • Samaritans - 116 123

For specialist support for veterans and their families (24/7 helpline):

  • Combat Stress - 0800 138 1619

For urgent medical or mental health advice (not life-threatening):

  •  NHS - 111

Important Reminders

  • These services are free, confidential, and staffed by trained professionals who understand veterans' unique experiences.
  • You do not need to be in a “crisis” to call - reaching out early can prevent escalation.
  • If you are outside the UK, please use your local emergency number or contact the nearest British embassy/consulate for assistance.

Please reach out now if you need help.

Help is available, and many veterans have found their way through difficult times with the right support.

This information is provided to help you access professional support quickly. VCN is not a crisis service but is committed to helping veterans and their families find the right help.
