In 2025, to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of VE/VJ Day, the Veterans Community Network (VCN), led by our Service Director, Dr. Gill Le Page, designed a memorial tapestry. Each of our six panels traveled with our Peer Mentors to various drop-ins and visits across our areas, where, for a small donation, our beneficiaries had the opportunity to add stitches to a panel and be part of the 80th Anniversary Tapestry project. Each participant received a certificate of acknowledgement for their participation and had the chance to share their military experience.

Our 80th Anniversary Tapestry first travelled to Caddington Grove Care Home in Dunstable, where Dr. Gill Le Page and our B.O.B Peer Mentor, Wilf Bamford, spent the afternoon with the Veterans in the care home. Our 80th Anniversary Tapestry first travelled to Caddington Grove Care Home in Dunstable, where Dr. Gill Le Page and our B.O.B Peer Mentor, Wilf Bamford, spent the afternoon with the Veterans in the care home. They taught them how to add stitches into the memorial tapestry panels and engaged in discussions about the Veterans’ personal experiences of living through VE/VJ Day. VCN also received a visit from the Chelsea Pensioners, who contributed stitches into the tapestry. The tapestry then travelled to the Armed Forces Day event in Bedford, the Bedford Wellbeing Day, the Olney Riverfest, and made appearances at VCN's own Drop-in Hubs & Breakfast Clubs. VCN would like to thank all of our beneficiaries who participated in the tapestry and supported the Veterans Community Network project.

On Tuesday, 18th November, VCN celebrated their Open Day at Abington Park Museum, where the completed 80th Anniversary Tapestry project was unveiled in front of attendees. On Tuesday, 18th November, VCN celebrated their Open Day at Abington Park Museum, where the completed 80th Anniversary Tapestry project was unveiled in front of attendees. This event also coincided with VCN's 5th Birthday. VCN would like to extend their gratitude to those who attended and to Abington Park Museum, which has graciously provided space for the memorial tapestry to be displayed for an additional 6 weeks for the public to view. The Tapestry Project was a wonderful way to connect our Military Community, and all donations raised from the Tapestry Project go directly back into supporting our Veterans Community Network. We are grateful for any donations of any amount. If you would like to further donate, please click on our link below to be redirected to our JustGiving page.
