2025 | 80th ANNIVERSARY TAPESTRY PROJECT

About the tapestry

About the tapestry

In 2025, to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of VE/VJ Day, VCN, led by our Service Director, Dr Gill Le Page, designed a memorial tapestry. Each of our six panels travelled with our Peer Mentors to various drop-ins and visits across our areas, where for a small donation, our beneficiaries had the opportunity to add in stitches to a panel and be part of this project. Each participant received a certificate of acknowledgement for their participation and had the opportunity to share their Military experience.

About the tapestry

Our tapestry first travelled to Caddington Grove Care Home in Dunstable, where Dr Gill Le Page and our B.O.B Peer Mentor, Wilf Bamford spent the afternoon with the Veterans in the care home teaching them how to add stitches into the tapestry panels and talking about the Veterans personal experiences of living through VE/VJ Day. VCN received a visit from the Chelsea Pensioners, who contributed stitches into the tapestry. The tapestry travelled to the Armed Forces Day event in Bedford, the Bedford Wellbeing Day, the Olney Riverfest and made appearances at VCN's own Drop-in Hubs & Breakfast Clubs. VCN would like to thank all of our beneficiaries who participated in the tapestry and supported the project.

About the tapestry

Open day

On Tuesday 18th November, VCN had their Open Day at Abington Park Museum, where the completed tapestry project was unveiled in front of attendees. This also timed well with VCN's 5th Birthday. VCN would like to thank those who attended and Abington Park Museum, who created space for the tapestry project to be subsequently displayed for a further 6 weeks for the public to view. The Tapestry Project was a wonderful way to connect our Military Community and all donations raised from the Tapestry Project goes directly back into supporting our Military Community. We are grateful for any donations of any amount. If you would like to further donate, please click on our link below to be redirected to our JustGiving page.
